About Me
My name is James Stanley. I'm a 25-year-old singer-songwriter originally from Utah. Along the way, I've called Idaho, Pittsburgh, and now Arizona home, with each place shaping both who I am and the music I create. My influences are all over the map.
I grew up listening to artists like The Beatles and Stan Ridgway, while also being drawn to the energy of Beastie Boys and Linkin Park. More recently, I've found myself inspired by the emotional songwriting and sonic creativity of Jon Bellion, Bon Iver, and Novo Amor, balanced by the intensity of bands like Knocked Loose, Bring Me the Horizon, and Hot Mulligan.
At my core, I make pop music—but I love that "pop" has become such an expansive genre. I'm drawn to blending sounds, emotions, and influences that might not traditionally belong together, creating music that feels both familiar and unexpected.
I've always written from personal experience. Some of the hardest moments in my life were made a little easier by songs that expressed what I couldn't put into words myself. That realization inspired me to start writing. What began as an attempt to process my own emotions has grown into a passion for telling honest stories and giving voice to feelings that are often difficult to explain. If someone hears one of my songs and feels a little more understood, then I've accomplished what I set out to do.
